MStereoSpread by MeldaProduction (Plugin Review)

MStereoSpread is an artificial stereo generator that is built with 2 algorithms - A high-end spectral algorithm, and the second one is based on comb-filtering. It uses psychoacoustics to bring your tracks closer to the listener and make them as wide and tight as physically and humanly possible.

Also, It uses a unique stereo expansion algorithm that provides a tight-sounding stereo expansion, which is perfect for just about any audio material and is fully mono-compatible.

The way MstereoSpread works is by modifying both the left and right channels differently, and when merged together they recreate the original signal, which can be achieved on 2 algorithms, the first - a delay-based generator, and the second, a spectral generator that provides an astonishing clarity and naturality, the latter is recommended because it does it smoothly!

Let's Get to Know Some Major Features...

The Global Panel:

This contains general processing properties affecting all the audio, such as the output gain, Widening, and Panorama.

As you would have probably guessed the output gain defines the global gain applied on the outgoing signal and since the stereo expansion algorithm is designed to alter the side signal, which means they can modify the output level, and use the output gain knob to compensate.

Widening extends the stereo field of the signal, and the good thing about this is that it is fully mono-compatible, and the Panorama defines the panorama that is applied to the output signal, You may use it to compensate for the signal being psycho-acoustically out of
the center.

Spectral Generator Panel

The Spectral Stereo Generator doesn't rely on any delay-based processing, the way it works is simply removing some frequencies from the left channel and others from the right channel in such a way, that the mono output will give the original signal again.

You might wonder how the hell would this sound natural, well, thanks to the unique algorithm that provides very high transparency, and very natural sound and it keeps the stereo location in the center as much as possible.

On top of this, you can also apply Saturation, it can make the signal richer and more exciting, just be wary of how far you sweep the saturation knob as it might cause some annoying distortion.

Delay-Based Generator Panel

The Delay Generator is based on comb-filtering which is used in several stereo audio plugins, and this is due to its simplicity and efficiency. The drawback of this method is that it creates an echo of the original signal which is noticeable in signals that aren't stable e.g vocals, so, you might want to test either of the generators to see what works best for you.

Stereo Field Analyzer

It comes with an analyzer that gives you an accurate view of the output stereo profile, which you can use to ensure the recording is accurately wide and has the correct direction, I personally would advise you steer away from using an analyzer unless where appropriate, they can really be detrimental to what you are doing, just trust your ears and move on.

Modulation

My favorite feature of this plugin is the modulation aspect, you can modulate any parameter, and each modulator can work as an LFO, audio level follower, enveloper, randomizer, and even pitch detector.

System Requirements
Windows
  • Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • VST / VST3 / AAX compatible host (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Intel/AMD processor with SSE2 support
Mac OS X
  • Mac OS X (10.7 and newer, 32-bit or 64-bit)
  • VST / VST3 / AU / AAX compatible host (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Intel/AMD processor with SSE2 support

Note: Always use 32-bit plugins in 32-bit hosts or 64-bit plugins in 64-bit hosts!

Another Note: 64-bit plugins can't work in 32-bit hosts even if the operating system is 64-bit. Do NOT use 32-bit plugins in 64-bit hosts. They would have to be bridged and can become slow and unstable.
