2 Chainz Reacts to Kendrick Lamar’s Shoutout on ‘Not Like Us’ & Embraces Independence
Kendrick Lamar name-dropped 2 Chainz on his viral Drake diss “Not Like Us,” and now the Atlanta rapper is finally weighing in. While some fans speculated it was a slight, Tity Boi isn’t taking it that way.
During an interview on The Breakfast Club this week, 2 Chainz explained why he didn’t see Kendrick’s line—“2 Chainz said you good, but he lied”—as a diss.
“I just think it was some wordplay because Drake and I got a song called ‘No Lie,’” he said. “But I didn’t take it no kind of way. I don’t think he was taking a shot at me.”
He added that while some artists might have been upset or left out, he wasn’t phased: “Some people didn’t want their name in it, some people were like, ‘Why didn’t he say my name?’ But it wasn’t nothing.”
2 Chainz Goes Independent
Beyond the Kendrick mention, 2 Chainz is making headlines for another reason—his newfound independence. After over a decade at Def Jam, he officially left the label in October, comparing himself to NBA superstars like LeBron James and Kevin Durant in free agency.
“I wanna make a huge announcement. Starting last week, I am now an independent artist,” he shared in a video while casually draining a three-pointer on a basketball court in Abu Dhabi. “That’s right, I’m not re-signing with Def Jam. So think of it like KD or like LeBron—the biggest free agent in the game.”
His split from Def Jam marks the end of an era. 2 Chainz joined the label in 2012, dropping Based on a T.R.U. Story, which debuted at No. 1 and gave fans hits like “No Lie” with Drake and “Birthday Song” featuring Kanye West. He went on to release five more solo albums and two joint projects with Lil Wayne under the label.
Before his solo success, 2 Chainz—then known as Tity Boi—was part of Playaz Circle, signed to Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace. Now, with his independence, fans are eager to see what’s next for the Drench God.
