Drake’s Cryptic Post Sparks Speculation After Serena Williams’ Super Bowl Cameo
Drake might have just thrown some subtle shade at his ex, Serena Williams, after she made a surprise appearance during Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show. And fans are definitely noticing.
Not long after Serena hit the stage—briefly Crip Walking while Kendrick performed his hit Drake diss “Not Like Us”—Drake took to his burner Instagram account, @plottttwistttttt, to post a throwback photo of himself alongside Serena’s longtime agent, Jill Smoller. The pic, taken at Wimbledon in 2015, showed him courtside supporting his former flame, and while he didn’t say much, the timing spoke volumes.
Fans were quick to call him out.
"Wow, that’s creepy and weird," one user commented. Another joked, “‘Drake is so unbothered’—this dude was definitely crying after watching the highlights.” Some even pointed out how fast he responded to Serena but has been noticeably quiet when it comes to Kendrick: “Damn! He responded to a woman with the quickness. Too bad he won’t do the same to the man who has had his foot on his neck for the past year.”
Meanwhile, Serena isn’t letting the chatter get to her. After her Super Bowl moment, she addressed the performance in an Instagram post, revealing how it all came together.
"When @kendricklamar and team called and were like ‘we’ve been trying to do something forever, what about this? We loved your Crip Walk at the Olympics after you won the gold medal,’” she wrote. “I’m like, Super Bowl? Are you serious? When in the world would I ever be able to dance at a Super Bowl? (Never.) Let’s do it!”
Her husband, Alexis Ohanian, also came to her defense after media personalities like Charlamagne Tha God and Stephen A. Smith criticized her for the dance.
"Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago, and it shows… This is bigger than the music," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Drake and Serena were rumored to have dated back in 2011, with the rapper frequently spotted at her matches. Kendrick even referenced their alleged history in “Not Like Us” with the line: “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home, y’all didn’t deserve him neither / From Alondra down to Central, n—a better not speak on Serena.”
So was Drake feeling salty about Serena’s Super Bowl moment? Or was his post just a coincidence? Either way, fans are reading between the lines, and the internet isn’t letting it slide.
