Will Smith Shares Shocking Last Conversation with Prince—Just Hours Before His Death
Will Smith has revealed a jaw-dropping moment from his past—one that involves music icon Prince and a business idea that never got the chance to happen.
Speaking on the Broken Record podcast, Will shared that he had a conversation with Prince just eight hours before the legend passed away in 2016. According to him, Prince had an ambitious plan: he wanted to start an entertainment company with Will and JAY-Z.
“He called and was pitching the idea,” Will recalled. “He told me he had already spoken to JAY-Z, and he wanted us to do it together. We talked that night, and in the morning—he was gone.”
This wasn’t the only eerie moment in Will’s career. He also revealed that he met The Notorious B.I.G. just hours before Biggie was shot and killed in 1997.
While the joint venture with Prince never materialized, Will and JAY-Z have gone on to collaborate on several major projects through their respective companies. In 2020, Roc Nation and Will’s Overbrook Entertainment teamed up to bring the story of Emmett Till and his mother, Mamie Till Mobley, to television. The limited series, announced on the 65th anniversary of Till’s brutal killing, shed light on the tragedy that helped spark the Civil Rights Movement.
Beyond entertainment, the two moguls have also worked together in the business world. In 2021, they both invested in Landis Technologies, a startup aimed at helping low-income renters become homeowners. Their combined influence helped Landis secure $165 million in funding, allowing the company to purchase around 1,000 homes for families working toward mortgage approval.
“Financial inclusion is really important to us,” Landis co-founder Cyril Berdugo stated. “We want to help create wealth for low-income Americans. We only profit when our clients successfully buy back the homes.”
Though Prince’s dream of an entertainment powerhouse with Will and JAY-Z never came to life, his influence continues to be felt. And as for Will? He remains deeply connected to some of the biggest names in music and business, proving that the right collaborations can shape history.
