"Jude Okoye Remanded in Prison Over Fresh Fraud Charges"
The legal troubles for Jude Okoye, former manager and elder brother of P-Square, have deepened as he was remanded in prison following fresh fraud charges filed against him.
On Monday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned Okoye on a four-count charge, accusing him of fraudulently diverting over $1 million and £34,537.59 in music proceeds from three companies. The prosecution claims this move deprived his brother, Peter ‘Mr. P’ Okoye, of his rightful earnings.
Appearing before Justice Ramon Oshodi at the Ikeja High Court, Okoye pleaded "not guilty." His lawyer, Clement Onwuenwunor, pushed for bail, arguing that he had already been granted bail in a related case at Ikoyi Court. However, the prosecution opposed the request, stating they had yet to file a formal response.
Justice Oshodi ruled that the bail application could not be rushed without reviewing all filings. He directed the prosecution to submit their response before the next hearing on March 6, while the trial is scheduled for May 16 and 23.
This latest case comes just a day after Okoye was granted N100 million bail over separate fraud allegations involving N1.38 billion, $1 million, and £34,537.59.
