How Kcee Discovered Iyanya in Calabar and Brought Him to Lagos – Soso Soberekon Spills
Music executive Soso Soberekon has shed light on how Nigerian singer Iyanya got his big break, thanks to Kcee spotting his talent in Calabar, Cross River State.
During a live chat with media personality Daddy Freeze, Soberekon revealed that Iyanya was hosting a karaoke show in Calabar when Kcee noticed his potential. Impressed by his performance, Kcee approached him and offered to bring him to Lagos to chase his music dreams.
However, the journey wasn’t that simple. Iyanya’s parents were initially reluctant to let him go, and it took some convincing before they finally agreed. Soberekon recalled that they were already at the airport when Iyanya called to say his parents had given their blessing.
Once in Lagos, life wasn’t exactly glamorous for the rising star. According to Soberekon, Iyanya had to sleep on the couch for four years because there was no extra room in Kcee’s house, where his family was also staying. Despite the tough living conditions, he kept pushing, even writing two songs for Kcee & Presh, both of which were produced by Soberekon.
Iyanya has since gone on to become a household name in the Nigerian music industry, proving that talent, perseverance, and the right opportunities can lead to success.
