Kanye West Sparks Outrage Over Comments on Cassie’s Assault Lawsuit Against Diddy
Kanye West is once again at the center of controversy, this time for questioning Cassie’s sexual assault lawsuit against Diddy. In a series of late-night posts on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday (February 20), Ye appeared to suggest that Cassie’s lawsuit was an act of extortion.
“Did Cassie extort Puff?” he wrote, referring to Diddy by his longtime nickname.
Cassie’s lawsuit, filed in November 2023, accused Diddy of years of sexual and physical abuse during their decade-long relationship. While the case was settled just a day later, video footage later surfaced showing Diddy violently attacking Cassie in a hotel hallway in 2016. Following the leak, Diddy issued a public apology, admitting his actions were “inexcusable” and that he was “disgusted” with himself.
Kanye’s remarks immediately sparked backlash, with many social media users slamming him for attempting to discredit Cassie’s claims.
“Don’t release whatever music you’re gonna release,” one person warned him.
Another user, disappointed in Ye’s stance, wrote: “Crazy to think this man made My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, the greatest album I’ve ever heard… now his mind is completely gone.”
A third person kept it simple: “Delete this, bruh.”
This isn’t the first time Kanye has made controversial comments about the case. Earlier this month, he publicly supported Diddy and disturbingly tried to justify the 2016 assault, calling it an act of “true love.”
“When a man truly loves a woman, he may express it in rage. I empathize with both sides,” Ye wrote at the time, before adding: “You have to truly be in love to get to the point of risking everything.”
He even went as far as to ask his 30 million followers: “If someone beats up their girl in public, is that domestic violence or just public indecency?”
As if that wasn’t enough, Kanye later began selling replicas of the hoodie Cassie was wearing in the assault video and bragged about making over $30,000 from the sales. Social media users called the move “evil” and further proof that Ye has lost touch with reality.
The backlash against Kanye continues to grow, with fans and critics alike calling him out for his reckless statements.
