Drake & Ebro Darden Trade Shots Over ‘Sickness in Hip Hop’ Comment
Drake and Ebro Darden are the latest to lock horns, with the OVO boss firing back after the Hot 97 host called him a “sickness” in hip hop.
During a recent episode of Ebro In The Morning, Ebro discussed Kendrick Lamar’s ongoing feud with Drake and took a sharp dig at the Toronto rapper.
“Drake is not that important,” he said. “The reason Drake’s in this is because he is a sickness in the game. It could have been any artist, but it’s what Drake represents… He’s beloved, we love his music. But he’s not willing to go rip his soul from the bottom and do ayahuasca and look himself in the mirror, as Kendrick had prescribed to him.”
Drake wasted no time clapping back. He took to his private Instagram (aka his Finsta) to share a Photoshopped image of Ebro’s face floating over a bowl of ayahuasca—a not-so-subtle nod to the radio host’s comments.
But Ebro saw the response as proof that Drake was feeling the heat.
“I’ll say this,” he said on his next show. “If Drake is now mentioning me at this point in his career – when he’s never mentioned me before, never even been on our program – that means he’s at a low. He’s already responded to Charlamagne, Joe Budden, and now me? Yeah, that says a lot.”
Ebro’s History of Criticizing Drake
This isn’t the first time Ebro has taken shots at Drizzy.
In 2023, he criticized Drake for shading Childish Gambino’s This Is America during his It’s All A Blur tour. At the time, he called out the rapper for never speaking on Black social issues yet feeling the need to mock a song that resonated with many.
“Drake has never shown up to have anything to say about anything going on in society with Black folks,” Ebro said. “So now you have an issue with Childish Gambino? Fam, the song was supposed to be a joke diss. Why you in your feelings?”
He later clarified his stance on X (formerly Twitter), writing, “Drake doesn’t have to [speak out], nor should he if he doesn’t feel it. But to say This Is America is overrated when that song came at a time people needed someone to say something? That’s wack to me.”
Drake, as expected, stayed silent on the matter back then. But now, with tensions rising and the rap world watching, his latest response to Ebro suggests he’s not letting the shots slide anymore.
