A$AP Rocky Walks Free: Jurors Thought the Gun Was Real but Still Acquitted Him
A$AP Rocky just beat his assault case, but a surprising detail emerged after the verdict—jurors actually believed the gun he allegedly fired was real.
The rapper was found not guilty on both counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm on Tuesday (Feb. 18) after just three hours of deliberation. Despite this, one juror revealed that while they thought a crime had been committed, there simply wasn’t enough solid evidence to convict him of felony assault.
“We were all thinking a crime had been committed, but with the instructions we had and the law, we didn’t think there was enough evidence to convict,” one juror told YouTuber Nique at Nite.
Prosecutors argued Rocky fired a warning shot at A$AP Relli during a November 2021 altercation, but the rapper’s defense claimed it was just a prop gun. The jury wasn’t entirely convinced, with one member saying, “I think most of us felt it was real.”
However, they also found the witness testimonies unreliable and felt the prosecution didn’t prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Rocky had committed felony assault. “The feeling was there was a gun, but unfortunately, they didn’t have enough evidence to convict on the charges,” the juror added.
Outside the courthouse, Rocky expressed his gratitude: “Thank God first. You gotta thank God first. And I really wanna thank the jury for making the right decision.”
Shortly after, he took to X (formerly Twitter) and posted a cryptic message: “DON’T BE DUMB,” the name of his long-awaited upcoming album.
Rihanna also celebrated her boyfriend’s victory, writing: “The glory belongs to God and God alone! Thankful, humbled by his mercy.”
Meanwhile, 50 Cent, who had been vocal throughout the trial, couldn’t resist taking another shot at Relli, posting: “Not guilty. I told y’all I’d bet $500K he’d beat it!”
Kanye West and Tyler, The Creator also showed their support, with Ye posting a simple prayer hands emoji and Tyler sharing a picture of Rocky hugging his lawyer.
For now, A$AP Rocky walks free, and with his album on the way, he’s looking to put this chapter behind him.
