Kendrick Lamar’s hit “Not Like Us” got a hilarious makeover on Saturday Night Live, thanks to the comedic talents of Will Ferrell and Ana Gasteyer. During the show’s 50th anniversary special, the duo returned to their beloved roles as music teachers Marty and Bobbi Culp, bringing their quirky spin to modern hits.
Ferrell kicked things off by jokingly asking, “Are Kenny Lamar and Drake Graham in the house?” He then quipped about the possibility of a hug between the two rappers—“Not in hell. Message received!” This set the stage for their comedic take on Kendrick’s chart-topping diss track, complete with Ferrell’s bold, controversial line, “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile.”
Their performance didn’t stop there; they even turned Kendrick’s clever “A minor” line into a long, operatic segment, showcasing their comedic chops. Former TDE labelmate Doechii also joined the fun, performing a brief cover of her song “Denial is a River” from her Grammy-winning mixtape, Alligator Bites Never Heal.
Another highlight of the anniversary show was the reunion of Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean, who brought back two-thirds of the Fugees. The duo performed several songs, including some solo hits from Hill, with help from The Roots. The night was packed with musical performances from stars like Lil Wayne, who delivered a medley of his hits after being introduced by Dave Chappelle, as well as appearances from Paul McCartney, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and many more.
Although Kendrick didn’t make an appearance on SNL, fans recently enjoyed his unforgettable Super Bowl halftime show, which attracted an astonishing 133.5 million viewers. This performance, featuring guest appearances from SZA, Mustard, Serena Williams, and Samuel L. Jackson, has now become the most-watched Super Bowl show in history, surpassing even Michael Jackson’s iconic 1993 performance.
With Saturday Night Live celebrating 50 years of comedy and music, it was a night filled with laughs and nostalgia that fans won’t soon forget!
