Police Reject Portable’s ‘Madman’ Defense, Insist He Must Surrender
Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, is once again in the spotlight, but this time, his antics aren’t helping him evade the law. The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed his claim that he is undergoing psychiatric treatment and insisted that he must surrender himself for investigation.
Portable, known for his erratic behavior and viral outbursts, posted a video on Tuesday declaring that he is a “madman” currently receiving treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Aro, Abeokuta. This came after the police officially declared him wanted, and the singer seemingly attempted to use his mental health as a defense.
In the video, Portable pleaded with Nigerians and the Ogun State Government, likely hoping to garner sympathy and avoid the looming legal consequences. However, the authorities are not convinced.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for Ogun State, Omolola Odutola, has made it clear that Portable's status as a wanted man remains unchanged, despite his claims. Speaking on the matter, she stated:
“Portable will have to surrender himself. He cannot just claim to be in a psychiatric hospital. Everyone knows he is a wanted person. If he is in any facility, the police must be officially informed. He remains a wanted man.”
This response from the police suggests that they are not entertaining any attempts to sidestep the legal process. If Portable is indeed undergoing psychiatric treatment, the police expect an official statement from the hospital confirming his condition, which has not happened so far.
Portable’s Ongoing Legal Troubles
This isn’t the first time Portable has found himself entangled in controversy. The singer, who rose to fame with the hit song Zazoo Zeh, has built a reputation for his wild behavior, frequent online rants, and run-ins with law enforcement.
His legal troubles have ranged from accusations of assault to resisting arrest. Last year, Portable had a highly publicized confrontation with the police when officers attempted to arrest him at his bar in Ogun State. The singer livestreamed the encounter, claiming he was being harassed unjustly.
Now, with the latest warrant out for his arrest, it appears the authorities are no longer willing to tolerate his antics.
What Happens Next?
The big question now is: will Portable surrender himself, or will he continue to evade the police? Given his history of defiance, it won’t be surprising if he stretches this saga even further. However, with the police standing firm, his legal troubles may soon catch up with him.
For now, one thing is clear—claiming to be a “madman” won’t be enough to keep the law off his back. Whether in a psychiatric hospital or not, Portable remains a wanted man, and the police are determined to see that justice takes its course.
