Rema Stuns in *Rolling Stone*, Reveals Drake’s DM Inspired *Ginger Me* & *Woman*

Drake’s DM Inspired Rema’s Ginger Me & Woman – Rolling Stone Feature Reveals!

Sometimes, all it takes is a few words of encouragement to spark greatness. For Afrobeats superstar Rema, a simple direct message from Drake in 2020 was the push he needed to create two of his biggest hits—Ginger Me and Woman.

In a recent Rolling Stone feature, Rema opened up about how the unexpected DM from the global rap icon reignited his creative energy at a time when things weren’t going great.

"I’m just a kid in 2020. The year was not going great. Getting a DM from Drake telling you ‘Keep going, you’re doing amazing,’ that inspired me to get back in the studio and be like, OK, I want to go make ‘Ginger Me.’ I want to make ‘Woman.’” – Rema to Rolling Stone

For an emerging artist, recognition from a global superstar can be life-changing. At the time, Rema was already making waves in Afrobeats, but the motivation from Drake pushed him to tap into a new level of creativity. Soon after, Ginger Me and Woman were born—songs that would go on to dominate streaming platforms and establish Rema as a rising force in global music.

This revelation highlights the growing influence of Afrobeats worldwide. While African artists have long been inspired by Western music, the tables are turning, with global icons like Drake, Beyoncé, and Chris Brown recognizing and supporting Afrobeats stars.

Since then, Rema’s career has skyrocketed. From chart-topping hits like Calm Down to international collaborations with Selena Gomez and Hollywood’s biggest stars vibing to his music, he has become a leading ambassador for Afrobeats. His signature sound—blending Afropop, trap, and futuristic melodies—continues to set him apart on the global stage.

Now, the big question on everyone’s mind: Will Rema and Drake finally collaborate on a song? Given Drake’s history of working with Afrobeats artists like Wizkid and Tems, it wouldn’t be surprising if a Rema-Drake linkup happens sooner rather than later. Fans have already taken to social media, manifesting a potential hit between the two.

Whether or not a collab is in the works, one thing is clear—Rema’s journey is just getting started, and the world is watching.
