Cam’ron Keeps It Real on Why He’s Skipping JAY-Z’s Roc Nation Brunch
Cam’ron has no interest in attending JAY-Z’s annual Roc Nation brunch, and he’s not shy about saying why. While some might see the exclusive event as a networking goldmine, the Harlem rapper isn’t sold on the idea of rubbing elbows just for the sake of it.
Speaking on his show Talk With Flee, Cam addressed the topic after Gillie Da Kid recently criticized these types of events, calling them full of “fake” people. While Cam doesn’t fully agree with Gillie’s take, he made it clear that he has his own reasons for never pulling up to the high-profile gathering.
“I’ve done records with JAY-Z. I was signed to JAY-Z’s company. I had a joint venture with JAY-Z and Def Jam,” Cam’ron said. “So being around JAY-Z or Juan [Perez, Roc Nation exec] is not a big deal for me.”
His main issue? The vibe.
“It’s not really a big deal for me to be around a bunch of men ‘cause it be a little scatter of bitches at that shit, and then it’s a bunch of men,” he continued. “Secondly, you got a bunch of people just hanging out taking pictures.”
Cam’ron admitted that while the brunch might be a great opportunity for younger artists looking to make industry connections, he personally doesn’t see the point. He respects JAY-Z’s work ethic and music but says he and Hov never had that kind of personal relationship—and he’s not about to force it over champagne and selfies.
“If I go, what am I getting out of it?” he questioned. “Not even money-wise, but opportunity-wise. I go to brunch in Harlem and get 26 bitches to leave with me. Rihanna ain’t leaving with me from that joint—not in front of everybody.”
Of course, he made it clear that he’s speaking in jest and meant no disrespect to Rihanna, who’s now married to A$AP Rocky. But still, for Cam, a local brunch in Harlem sounds like a better use of his time.
Beyond brunch talk, Cam’ron is also making waves in Hollywood. It looks like he’s set to make a cameo in Happy Gilmore 2, joining fellow rap legend Eminem in the upcoming Adam Sandler sequel. He recently teased his involvement by posting a photo with his team in front of the Talk With Flee logo, captioned, “Put the whole team in da movie. #HappyGilmore2.”
With Kid Cudi confirmed for a starring role and cameos from Travis Kelce and Bad Bunny also rumored, Cam’ron’s addition to the film only adds to the hype. Looks like he’s got bigger things to focus on than brunch invites.
