MStereoProcessor by MeldaProduction (Plugin Review)

MStereoProcessor by MeldaProduction is a multi-band stereo enhancer that can widen, and add a sparkling touch to your sounds, it is an advanced plugin and is solely created to give maximum control over the stereo signal.

It can be used to enhance the width of the audio, and make your mixes sound more professional by easily controlling stereo images and the necessary perception of depth and space.

Let's get to know some major features...

The Global Panel:

This contains general processing properties affecting all the audio, such as the Input gain, Panorama, Widening, and Exciter.

As you would have probably guessed the Input gain defines the global gain applied on the incoming signal, and the Panorama defines the panorama that is applied to the signal, e.g if you turn the Panorama knob all the way to the right, it would only affect the right signal, and if you leave it as is, it would default to center.

Widening extends the stereo field of the signal, and the good thing about this is that it is fully mono-compatible, the way this works is by converting the incoming signal into its mid (mono) and side channels, leaving the mid intact and applying a gain to the side channel, then
converts the signal back to the left and right channels, which results in either wider or narrower sounds depending on where you position the knob, anything above 0 would result in widening, and anything below 0, would result in narrower, you get the idea.

Exciter defines the power of the global exciter, which processes the band signal through a tube-like saturator that can enhance the
global clarity and add some upper harmonics.

Control Individual Frequency Range

MStereoProcessor lets you process all bands separately. You can modify the stereo field from mono to a 200% increase and even perform a delayed stereo enhancement. What I love about this section is that you can apply an exciter to improve the clarity of each band, you are also provided 3 types of crossover (analog, linear-phase, hybrid), so you can choose the optimal band separation mode for your particular audio material.

Be careful though! You can easily mess things up if you don't know what you are doing, I'll advise you to start with a preset and then work your way from there.

2D Stereo Field Analyzer and Channel Peak Meters

It comes with an analyzer that gives you an accurate view of the output stereo profile, which you can use to ensure the recording is accurately wide and has the correct direction, I personally would advise you steer away from using an analyzer unless where appropriate, they can really be detrimental to what you are doing, just trust your ears and move on.

MStereoProcessor Pricing

It is priced originally at $87.00, but there is a discount going on, so, you can pick it up for $43.50, you might want to hurry up if it is something worth using for you.

Is MStereoProcessor Worth Using?

This depends as usual! If you want something simple, I'll recommend not buying this, as it is a little complex, and geared towards advanced users, here is a list of some more stereo widening plugins. If you want an advanced stereo plugin, and or want to be in maximum control over the stereo signal, then I'll recommend this.

Key Features:

  • 4 bands with separate widening and exciting
  • 2D stereo field analyzer and channel peak meters
  • Mono/stereo field check - you can easily check if your recording is mono compatible and what the stereo content actually is.
  • Mute and solo for each band - you can always listen to each band and check that each spectral part of the recording is perfect.
  • Extremely advanced and easy-to-use user interface
  • MIDI controllers with MIDI learn - you can map any parameter to any MIDI controller or MIDI keyboard and control it real-time or record and automate it.
  • Very fast, optimized for SSE and SSE2 processors.
  • Global preset management and online preset exchange
  • Fully automatable.
System Requirements
Windows
  • Windows Vista / 7 / 8 / 10 (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • VST / VST3 / AAX compatible host (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Intel/AMD processor with SSE2 support
Mac OS X
  • Mac OS X (10.7 and newer, 32-bit or 64-bit)
  • VST / VST3 / AU / AAX compatible host (32-bit or 64-bit)
  • Intel/AMD processor with SSE2 support

Note: Always use 32-bit plugins in 32-bit hosts or 64-bit plugins in 64-bit hosts!

Another Note: 64-bit plugins can't work in 32-bit hosts even if the operating system is 64-bit. Do NOT use 32-bit plugins in 64-bit hosts. They would have to be bridged and can become slow and unstable.
