Rihanna Stands by A$AP Rocky in Court, Brings Their Sons for Support
Rihanna made a powerful statement of loyalty and family as she attended the closing arguments of A$AP Rocky’s gun trial, this time with their two young sons by her side.
The highly publicized trial, which began on January 24, wrapped up nearly three weeks later on Thursday, February 13. Jury deliberations are set to begin the following day, with a verdict possibly being delivered the same day. While Rihanna has shown up in court multiple times throughout the proceedings, this was the first time their children, 2-year-old RZA and 1-year-old Riot, accompanied her.
According to legal reporter Meghann Cuniff, the family sat behind the defense table alongside Rocky’s mother during the morning session. However, the kids were not present in the courtroom after the lunch break.
The Case Against A$AP Rocky
The trial centers around an incident from November 2021, in which Rocky is accused of shooting at former A$AP Mob member A$AP Relli. The key issue in the case is whether the firearm used was real or a prop, as Rocky has claimed.
Rocky is facing two felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. If convicted, he could serve up to 24 years in prison. However, prosecutors have signaled that they will recommend a sentence of 8 to 10 years.
Before sending the jury to deliberate, the judge reminded them that self-defense is a valid legal argument. This means if Rocky reasonably believed he was in imminent danger of being harmed, he had the right to protect himself.
Rocky Chooses to Stay Silent
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, February 11, A$AP Rocky made the decision to waive his right to testify. When asked by Judge Arnold if he wished to speak in his own defense, Rocky simply responded, “I do in fact, Your Honor.”
His defense has relied on the testimony of several A$AP Mob members, including A$AP Lou and A$AP Twelvyy, who have supported his version of events.
One of the more unexpected moments in the trial came when Twelvyy was asked about AWGE, the name of Rocky’s label and creative collective. The rapper has never publicly disclosed what the letters stand for, and when Twelvyy hesitated to answer, Rocky interrupted from the defense table, saying: “Don’t say it.”
This caused a brief stir in the courtroom, as prosecutors pressed Twelvyy to reveal what he had just heard. However, he played it off, saying: “I heard something. I’m not too sure what I heard. I was listening to you.”
Rihanna’s Presence Speaks Volumes
With the jury now deciding Rocky’s fate, Rihanna’s presence in court, along with their children, sends a strong message of unity and support. Regardless of the outcome, it’s clear that the superstar singer is standing by her partner through this challenging moment. All eyes are now on the courtroom as the verdict looms.
