Stereoizer by NUGEN Audio (Plugin Review)

Audio Stereoizer is designed to expand your stereo image, and even for the conversion of mono to stereo signal with full mono compatibility, and no unwanted artifacts.

The way Stereizer works is by extracting elements in the original audio signal and applying algorithms that widen the characteristics of the sound naturally without adding any artificial reverberation and maintaining the original character of the sound.

Also, with the visual audio analysis feedback and a clear, logical control layout, Stereoizer is one of the best, most intuitive, and easy-to-use stereo plugins, let’s get to know some of its features…

Inter-aural Intensity Difference (IID) & Inter-aural Time Difference (ITD)

The Inter-aural Intensity Difference is an algorithm that manipulates the relative levels across the frequency spectrum, this is useful for enhancing the existing stereo spectrum or adding stereo depth to a mono signal and the good is it is mono compatible, and the…

Inter-aural Time Difference is an algorithm that does subtle manipulation in the difference in time of arrival between left and right channels, similar to “Haas Delay” this is also fully mono-compatible.

Linear Width

Linear Width is based entirely upon a natural mathematical extrapolation of an incoming signal, it leads to the extremely natural expansion of existing stereo material, with no side effects. The good thing about this is that it has no effect on a mono signal.

Stereo Frequency Analysis

This feature displays the stereo deviation from center against frequency. Frequency rises from 20Hz (inner edge) to 22kHz (outer edge), representing stereo position as a deviation from center (vertical).

Stereoizer Pricing

It is priced at $119.00 at the time of writing this review!

Is Stereoizer Worth Using?

Yes, but it would be dependent on several factors, do you already have one that does something familiar but wants something better, and easy? All in all, these are some use cases:

  • If an element is getting lost in a mix, you can use Stereoizer, by applying subtle dynamics, you can expand it without upsetting the balance of key central sounds.
  • If you want to space out elements in the mix, and or avoid a sound clash,  Try using Stereoizer as an alternative to heavy EQ to ‘move’ them out of the way, leaving a clear solid center and plenty of wide mid-range sounds intact in the mix.
  • Looking for a stereo plugin that is mono compatible, then this one is recommended
  • You can use it on the mastering bus, it can be used to add enhancement to the overall signal.
Applications
Mix | Sound Design
  • Expanding narrow stereo spectra
  • Introducing width to mono recordings
  • Enhancing the depth of FX return channels
  • Reigning in an over-enthusiastic spot FX
  • Creating 'center space'
  • Settling 'forward' sounds
  • Generating panoramic ambiance
  • Adding richness and gloss
  • Re-focussing central solidity
  • Avoiding heavy EQ and/or compression
  • Opening up cluttered frequencies
  • Fixing poorly positioned mic.'s
  • Adding depth, width, and space to specific tracks
  • Enlivening static sounds
Mastering | Post | Restoration
  • Natural extrapolation of an existing image
  • Frequency specific enhancement
  • Re-balancing
  • Taming eccentric material
  • Re-introduction of natural ambience
  • Firmly define an existing stereo spectrum
  • Avoid changing the character with unnecessary EQ
  • Neutral stereo expansion/contraction
  • Subtle blending of inserts and returns
  • Pychoacoustic sweetening of frequency crowns

Key Features:

  • Natural stereo-to-stereo extension
  • Mono to stereo enrichment
  • Leaves original character intact
  • Subtle to extreme applications
  • Band limited precision
  • No unwanted artifacts
  • No artificial reverberation added
  • No doubling effects or phase cancellation
  • Direct control over all parameters
  • Dynamic visual feedback
  • Independent psychoacoustic IID & ITD processes

System Requirements

  • AAX, VST, VST3, AU, and AudioSuite in both 64-bit and 32-bit versions. RTAS is also available as 32-bit only.
  • Mac OSX 10.6.x, 512 MB RAM
  • Windows XP or above, 512 MB RAM
