Ty Dolla $ign Distances Himself from Kanye West’s Controversy
After days of backlash surrounding Kanye West’s latest string of offensive remarks, Ty Dolla $ign is making it clear he doesn’t stand for hate.
Taking to Instagram on Tuesday night (February 11), Ty posted a simple but pointed message: “I do not condone ANY form of hate speech towards ANYBODY,” accompanied by a series of fist emojis in different skin tones. Though he didn’t call out Kanye directly, the timing of his statement spoke volumes.
In another quiet move, Ty also removed all mentions of ¥$, his joint project with Kanye, from his Instagram bio. However, a post promoting their song “Wheels Off” still remains on his page.
His statement came just hours after Shopify shut down Kanye’s online store for selling a t-shirt featuring a swastika. Ye had recently run a Super Bowl ad directing fans to his website, which initially featured items from his Yeezy clothing line. But after the commercial aired, the entire store was wiped clean, leaving just the controversial shirt for sale—dubbed HH-01, likely standing for “Heil Hitler.” Days earlier, Kanye had explicitly posted those words on X, further fueling outrage.
As a result, Ye’s X account has been banned again. While his Instagram remains active, he has deleted all his posts and has yet to comment.
Ty Dolla $ign’s stance marks a notable shift in their partnership. Back in June, he had no hesitation in defending Kanye despite his growing controversies. “Ye is the best artist of this generation, besides me, and I don’t give a f*** about what people were talking about,” he told Billboard. “I know my n***a. He’s one of the best people I’ve ever met.”
At the time, Ty seemed confident that Kanye’s reputation wouldn’t affect their success. “Just with my analysis of how it goes with him, he goes all the way to the top,” he explained. “And something may happen and he’ll say [something people find offensive] — and then people [get] right back, you know. Because this sh*t is undeniable.”
Ty and Kanye have been collaborating for years, dating back to at least 2016. But despite Kanye’s many controversies over the years, this is the first time Ty has publicly addressed anything related to them. Whether this signals a true break in their creative partnership remains to be seen.
